I Can See You Through Your Mask

I don’t believe in coincidence. In fact, I recently saw a post online that sums up my beliefs on the subject matter. It says, “Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous,” and I couldn’t agree more. The thing is, while we may not always have the reasons as to why a given occurrence is taking place, we can account for the fact that it is taking place in existence. The moment is real, and chances are there’s some form of a lesson, intention, or purpose in the event’s manifestation. Today is Sunday, June 6, 2021. To you that might not … Continue reading I Can See You Through Your Mask

Do You See You? Book Reading

Do You See You? is my first person testimony with respect to an abusive relationship I experienced during my twenties. It was not an easy book to write, but it was an important story for me to share. There have been tears shed almost every step of the way, but they were almost necessary to see my smile again. Sharing this project with the world is bittersweet, as I am sharing a lot of pain while also releasing it at the same time. At one point, all I knew for certain was that I would have to look at myself … Continue reading Do You See You? Book Reading

The American Oversight

For years now you have heard me preach the importance of children’s rights, and lately you’ve heard me get a little bit louder. Chances are, that won’t be changing anytime soon. Vocal holds regular writing competitions and when the opportunity to enter a challenge titled (Un)Common Knowledge presented itself, I had to present the current most important political fact I know: The United States is the only country in the world not yet to have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Check out the full article here. Continue reading The American Oversight

Exhibit A Released 5 Years Ago Today

The amount of courage that it takes to be able to even get to the moment where you are standing in front of a microphone in the recording studio can feel insurmountable. At least it did for me. I will never forget recording this song. I really wanted for the engineer to care about what we were creating. This was not only going to be my first single but the song touches on the very sensitive topic of when my friends and former classmates died in an avalanche on a school trip. Obviously it was a large task to ask … Continue reading Exhibit A Released 5 Years Ago Today

Daniel, You’re My Best Friend

I see you in heaven, seeing me working my ass off and yet still flirting with making mistakes. I hear your voice in the background, “he’s a chump, move on.” You said it so many times, I don’t even remember who we were talking about now. To you, they were all chumps. That’s cause you never let me down. You always supported me and had faith in my decision making abilities. You called me “the smart one,” and you were no doubt the funnier of us two. It’s incredible how even in death, 18 years later, you can make me … Continue reading Daniel, You’re My Best Friend

DAY 30: Miss 97%

I made it! I made it! I made it! I did everything I was supposed to do for 30 days with the exception of writing 1 single blog post, which means that if I grade myself in a traditional style… *tabulates results* I am officially, as it has always been “Miss 97%”. You see, I went to a very competitive school for junior high, and at this school people were making themselves sick to get “the grade.” At this particular institution, a lot of people always strived for the 100% on everything. They would put in overtime and extra credit … Continue reading DAY 30: Miss 97%

DAY 29: Mixed Emotions

When you experience mixed emotions it can be quite the wild ride. With this 30 Day Challenge coming to an end tomorrow, I thought I’d be ecstatic about it being over, but in reality, I don’t know how to feel. I’m fairly certain that the behaviours I adopted during these 30 days (minus the daily blogging) will continue once the challenge is over but I can’t be certain. Only time will tell. I have mixed emotions because for some reason skipping 1 day of blogging somehow has me down on myself. I made the active decision not to write that … Continue reading DAY 29: Mixed Emotions

DAY 28: Decisions

The decisions we make, whatever the size, shape the outcomes of our lives. Sometimes inaction is the best action and that is why yesterday I did not post. I made an executive decision to skip the blog post for the day but maintain the other tenants of my 30 Day Challenge. With only 3 posts left (including this one), I would have to say that I have learned a lot, many things that were surprising to me. I made a split second decision to do this 30 Day Challenge because something clicked for me that day: I needed a change. … Continue reading DAY 28: Decisions

DAY 26: Welcome 2021!

Welcome to 2021! Today is day one of another 365 day cycle of time. You can choose to spend any moment doing right by yourself or you can choose self-betrayal by not living authentically. I choose me. I needed 2021. Hopefully the world is ready to embrace the challenges we collectively face. Either way I will continue to put one step forward after the next going in the direction of my vision. Cheers to new beginnings and leaving what was no longer working behind. Happy new year y’all! – @ Continue reading DAY 26: Welcome 2021!
